Flippy opened his eyes to turquoise flashes. He was lying on his back on something firm and warm and looked up at a ceiling, dark but for the flashing.

He looked to his left, and in the black across the small room he saw 00:00:00 blinking in the dark. An unset time module behind smoked plastic shimmer. Some peripheral? An entertainment component of some sort? A chip player no doubt. Nobody bothered programming them anymore, time readouts were ubiquitous.

He glanced to his right and read his own readout. 0900. He hummed a D note. January 12th. His birthday. 27 today. Thursday.

Last he remembered, his birthday was over a week away. He hummed a b flat. "WTF!" in his readout. He giggled.
